- ➤ On June 14, over 10,000 people attended the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft where bakers made over 50,000 pies. Organizers faced token shortages and long traffic jams—so they will work with emergency services to improve safety and parking for next year's festival. The Piscataquis Observer

- ➤ Diahanne Morse of Hermon filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging that Mitchell Brown incited his brother Glenn Brown—serving a life sentence for fatally shooting Tina and Richard Bowden in 2020—by lying about a trust dispute, claims that Mitchell Brown denies while no court dates have been set. - ➤ Retailers oppose the proposed $1.50 cigarette tax increase, warning that Bangor shoppers may cross to New Hampshire for lower prices. Peter Brennan of the New England Convenience Store & Energy Marketers Association said the tax will hurt low-income customers and risk losing entire customer baskets—threatening overall sales. WGAN

- ➤ Maine Game Wardens will host the North Woods Throwdown at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach on Saturday, June 28th — facing West Virginia’s Natural Resources Police for the first time. - ➤ The Maine House did not pass Wednesday a budget addition that would have raised the state cigarette tax from $2 to $3.50 (77-71 vote) and helped cover extra Medicaid costs (the measure now heads to the Senate). Bangor Daily News
