CRIME NEWS

  • Sedgwick man Travis Bessey, 30, pleaded guilty in Bangor last year to making child sexual abuse material and was sentenced to 60 years in prison with lifetime supervised release—he must also pay $20,000 to each victim.  Bangor Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Brewer, UTC students received donated tools to support training in plumbing, electrical and carpentry provided by the Greater Bangor Apartment Owners and Managers Association on Tuesday at Jeff's Catering and Event Center + families and instructors celebrated the practical support. The event marks a key step for students like Adam Pelletier as they prepare to start their careers in local trades + local leaders hope this boost will strengthen the workforce.  FOX Bangor

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mills signed a bill that ensures farm workers earn at least the state minimum wage starting in 2026—removing a gap that left many paid only the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour.  WABI 5
  • A report from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife showed the Warden Service handled 490 search and rescue calls from July 2023 to June 2024 at a cost of $482,667.67, with Oxford, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties recording the most calls due to popular hiking trails—water rescues and a costly manhunt for a Lewiston mass shooting suspect in October 2023 drove up expenses. The report was submitted to the Legislature in January.  WABI 5
