- ➤ Maine lawmakers have advanced a bill that adjusts the state’s income tax brackets — if enacted, people earning at least $41,600 but less than $85,000 will pay $2,413 plus 6.75% on the amount above that threshold, and the bill now awaits one more vote in each chamber. WABI 5
- ➤ At a webinar last week, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce urged employers to prepare for immigration inspections by updating employment records and naming a contact for government agents—attorney Katie Minervino advised asking officials for proof of their purpose. - ➤ On June 13, the owners of Bangor Mall and the city of Bangor held a virtual hearing regarding alleged violations of nearly 10 city ordinances that require repairs on the property. Seven officials—including experts in code enforcement and environmental quality—gave testimony on hazards such as worsening potholes and a contaminated stream, with a final hearing set for August 7. - ➤ Maine lawmakers passed mobile home park protections that give resident cooperatives the right to purchase parks if they can match a seller’s price — and require corporate buyers to pay a fee to support a statewide fund. Gov Mills has 10 days to sign or veto the bills as a resident cooperative at Friendly Village Mobile Home Park in Gorham competes with a Wyoming investor while a third bill awaits more votes. - ➤ The 41st annual Trek Across Maine began Friday morning in New Gloucester with over 800 cyclists riding 180 miles to raise money for the American Lung Association—riders reached Bates College on Friday and will head to Saint Joseph’s College tonight before returning to Pineland Farms on Sunday.
