CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Brandon Harvey, a 43-year-old convicted felon from Glenburn, was arrested Tuesday night on Government Road in Bradley and accused of shooting a man in the abdomen on McCarty Road Monday—he faces charges of elevated aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, is held at Penobscot County Jail on $100,000 bail, and the victim remains in serious condition at a local hospital. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maine signed two bills into law Tuesday to give farmworkers new rights. One law raises the minimum wage to $14.65 per hour starting January 1 and the other lets workers act together to ask for better working conditions — though it does not allow unionizing. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Drivers on Griffin Road between Ohio Street and Broadway face a 24-hour detour at Bulls Eye Bridge as crews began paving and adding sealant on Tuesday for repairs until late July; eastbound drivers detour via Ohio Street and Finson Road until late June and will then cross the bridge while westbound traffic detours via Kenduskeag Avenue around early July. - ➤ The Bangor High School baseball team won its playoff opener against Brunswick by a score of 10 to 0 on Wednesday night. Freshman pitcher Cayden Karam threw five no-hit innings (with eight strikeouts) and shortstop Teddy Stephenson hit a decisive home run as the team will face the Class A North semifinals on Saturday. - ➤ The Bangor girls track team won their state championship in a three-day event that was delayed by wet conditions and rescheduled meets, coach Alan Mosca said on Wednesday — the team traveled from Lewiston to Auburn and scored in 10 of 19 events to secure their title. Gwen Bushnell’s key sixth place finish in the high jump helped maintain Bangor's lead as the Rams overcame extra challenges to claim another title. Bangor Daily News
