CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office closed McCarty Road in Glenburn near Broadway — after reports of a disorderly situation on Monday that left one person with a gunshot wound and another with minor injuries — as police search for the suspect who fled the scene. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ The Maine Department of the Secretary of State warned residents that a scam text sent Monday claimed an unpaid traffic violation would lead to license suspension — even Secretary Bellows received the message. The text falsely names the agency as the Maine Department of Motor Vehicles, which does not exist. WGAN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maine lawmakers have proposed a bill that will ban small single-use plastic toiletry containers in lodging establishments—imposing a $100 fine for violations and setting rules for hotels to stop offering them on Jan. 1, 2030 for larger properties and in 2032 for smaller ones. Some large hotel chains have already begun switching to larger, pump-topped bottles in response to the new rule. FOX Bangor
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Bangor resident Michael McClain filed a class action lawsuit on Monday alleging that St. Joseph Hospital failed to secure personal information during a cyberattack that led to systems going offline on May 26 — the breach may have exposed names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, emails and more while putting patients at risk for identity theft.
