- ➤ Girl Scouts of Maine announced that Avis Kennedy-Stirling of Greenville and Lyndsay Little of Houlton have become the first girls in the nation to earn college credit for the Gold Award today through a collaboration with Central Maine Community College — the program links Girl Scout leadership to academic achievement. - ➤ The Downeast Institute has placed clam boxes in 15 coastal communities, including new sites in Freeport, Yarmouth, Cumberland, and Falmouth, to monitor a sharp 85% decline in soft-shell clams. Mills defended her administration's response to a rising HIV outbreak at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor Tuesday by noting more public health nurses and expanded voluntary testing and treatment efforts.
