- ➤ On Saturday, May 31, Heather Burgess from The Glass Feather Studio will sell unique glass art pieces at Bangor Humane Society from 1 — 5 p.m. The $50 art pieces will help fund medical care for the animals. WABI 5
- ➤ Hundreds of people marched downtown in Bangor during the annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, led by Bangor High School’s Junior ROTC and featuring speeches and ceremonies to honor veterans. The event ended with a wreath laying, taps and a 21-rifle salute at the USS Maine monument—continuing a cherished local tradition to remember those who served. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ The Bangor Daily News and Maine Monitor announced that Daniel O’Connor will join on July 7 as a Report for America corps member to cover rural government and local politics—he earned his journalism degree at Seton Hall and has freelanced on political issues. He said he is eager to learn about Maine communities and expand local reporting on government challenges. The Piscataquis Observer
- ➤ Maine lawmakers approved two bipartisan bills that would strengthen dam safety and add $5 million for municipal repairs as the proposals passed committee votes of 12-1 and 9-4 earlier this month. The measures aim to boost the state’s dam safety agency and hold negligent dam owners accountable (lawmakers noted nearly 970 aging dams exist in various conditions). News Center Maine
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new study by Feeding America shows Maine had the highest rate of food insecurity among children in New England and the second highest overall in 2023. The report shows one in eight Mainers and one in five children struggled with hunger (Washington, Piscataquis, Aroostook and Somerset counties had the highest rates) while the Good Shepherd Food Bank calls for community action to end hunger.
