ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At about 6 p.m. Friday, a fire engulfed a Mariaville home on Peninsula Drive and spread into nearby woods; although no one was home, investigators say a lithium ion battery sparked the blaze—two cats remain missing.  Bangor Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Maine Savings Amphitheater will host a series of summer concerts featuring diverse acts from rock to rap, with shows starting on Friday, June 5 and running through Sunday, September 6.   • A local Mainer recalled climbing Katahdin three times, describing stormy nights and family hikes that made the mountain a lasting gift to him (he brewed coffee at 5,269 ft during one climb). He encourages fellow Mainers to make the trek at least once.  Bangor Daily News
  • Yesterday, locals gathered at Maine Forest and Logging Museum in Bradley to celebrate Maine Alewife Day, an annual event held the Saturday before Memorial Day that marked the migration of alewives from ocean to river.
