ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A ceremony honoring Maine game warden Josh Tibbetts, who died in a plane crash on May 12 in Avon, was held yesterday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor as uniformed law enforcement arrived at 10 a.m. and the service started at 1 p.m.  Bangor Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, volunteers and museum workers placed 3,168 flags (their third year) at the Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor to honor Maine service members killed in the Korean, Vietnam, and World wars, featuring a picnic, Color Guard and jazz show. The flag display remains through Memorial Day.  WABI 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bangor High School students met NASA engineer Dr. Kenneth Harris on Thursday during the Challenger Learning Center’s 40th anniversary celebration; he discussed NASA projects including work on the James Webb Telescope and held a student-led Q&A session.  FOX Bangor
  • MSAD 70 approved the $8.3 million proposed 2026+2027 budget with a 46-8 vote at Hodgdon Middle High School on Thursday night and the budget will move to a referendum vote on June 9.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sarah's House broke ground this afternoon on an expansion project in Holden that will add four accessible rooms and parking with an elevator to better support rural cancer patients and their families — the project addresses long-standing needs after guests struggled with stairs during treatment.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine baseball beat UMBC 5-4 on Thursday at the Bearcats Baseball Complex in Vestal, New York. Troy Carpenter hit his 15th home run and relief pitcher Brennan Rumpf helped secure the win, and the Black Bears will face top seed Binghamton in today's 1 p.m. winners bracket game.  Bangor Daily News
  • Gorham native Mackenzie Holmes had a breakout game for the Seattle Storm on Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena, setting career highs with 18 points, 26 minutes and 2 blocks in an 80-78 loss to the Connecticut Sun + she shot 100% from the free throw line.  Bangor Daily News
