  • Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center hosted the Logger’s Expo this weekend, where logging equipment was on display and Maine’s lady loggers, called Axewomen, demonstrated skills that show logging is not just for men. The expo also featured a professional lumberjill team — performing timber sports competitions that aim to inspire women and girls to join the trade.  FOX Bangor

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Maine State Police investigated a serious single-vehicle crash on I-395 at mile marker 1 around 8:45 p.m. Friday night in Bangor in which 23-year-old Devon Ireland lost control of his 1992 Mazda Miata and went over the guardrail while his passenger 23-year-old Lauren Mccann, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries, with both taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center and speed and alcohol believed to be factors.  FOX Bangor

  • Sawyer’s Shave Ice celebrated its grand opening yesterday in downtown Bangor when it opened its permanent storefront at 173 Park Street following a ribbon cutting ceremony—marking its transition from a mobile truck into a year-round business. The shop, which offered free goodies for the first 50 guests and a flat 10% discount on orders, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m.  WABI 5

CRIME NEWS

  • A former taekwondo instructor in Bangor was arrested on child sex abuse charges and faces 10 counts of gross sexual assault against a child under 12 with additional charges—he is scheduled to appear in court Monday.  News Center Maine

CULTURE NEWS

  • A walking tour in Bangor, organized by Black Travel Maine, honored Black leaders and women’s suffrage advocates as tour-goers walked historic paths — including a stop at Columbia Street Baptist Church. Historians said the tour highlighted figures like Maine’s first Black legislator and will be followed by a Juneteenth walking tour in Portland.  News Center Maine

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State officials are using more than $25 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to upgrade hatcheries in New Gloucester, Grand Lake Stream and Embden so Maine lakes and ponds receive more fish for recreational fishing. The renovations will be completed by the end of the year, which will boost production and help meet environmental standards.  Bangor Daily News
