- ➤ The Northeastern Forest Products Equipment Expo is taking place in Bangor this weekend with 185 exhibitors displaying the latest tractors and logging equipment — organizers also offer live demonstrations, axe throwing by the Axe Women Loggers of Maine, and food trucks for all ages. WABI 5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Chase Paul Farnsworth, a senior at Dexter Regional High School, was honored with the 2025 Principal’s Award—sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association—for his academic achievement and community leadership. He received his plaque and a share of 10 $1,000 scholarships at an honors luncheon in Brewer. The Piscataquis Observer
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sen. Susan Collins secured $8 million from ARPA-I for UMaine to develop a prototype bridge that uses composites and artificial intelligence, and she also announced $18 million in congressionally directed funds for the Advanced Structures and Composites Center. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the funding while the center announced nine layoffs that will occur on June 6 amid earlier funding cuts — the project aims to deliver more durable, cost-effective bridges. - ➤ Orrington will release public records on the local trash plant’s ownership structure and how taxpayer money has been spent by the end of this week in exchange for dropping a lawsuit after agreeing to pay a $2,500 legal fee + following an executive session by the Select Board. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month and at Northern Light Rehabilitation in Bangor, speech pathologists help head-and-neck cancer patients regain the ability to chew and swallow using targeted tongue-and-jaw exercises.
