Penquis CAP says a contractor will soon provide a detailed assessment while over 80 applicants wait for the 41 housing units designed for residents facing homelessness and mental health challenges. - ➤ Bangor police arrested Michael Tuller, 74, and Richard Lee, 26, at his Maple Street home on May 7 for drug trafficking—records show nearly 100 police responses since March 2022 for issues like trespassing and disturbances—and residents say the neighborhood has quieted as Tuller remains in jail after not posting a $35,000 bond. - ➤ The Penobscot Nation Chief Kirk Francis—56—was arrested for OUI in Bangor early Wednesday after being stopped on Poplar Street for a moving violation and failing field sobriety tests with a breath test of 0.21. WABI 5

- ➤ A new study by the Rail Passengers Association recommends extending the Amtrak Downeaster to Bangor to boost the economy, create jobs and reduce pollution — it projects 260,000 new riders and $61.7 million in annual benefits while examining stops in Lewiston, Winthrop, Waterville, Pittsfield, Bangor and Orono. - ➤ Hermon High School hosted its first home track meet yesterday on its new eight-lane rubber track after years of practicing in hallways and borrowing facilities. The track facility is part of a multimillion-dollar athletic complex—approved by town voters and supported by local donations—that gives the team a dedicated space to train and promises a safe place for community exercise. - ➤ Lawmakers discussed several childcare bills on Thursday morning in Augusta that aimed to ease restrictions on opening centers and to bolster current programs.
