- ➤ The annual Elliana's Hope for Healing Memorial Walk will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, at the Bangor Waterfront and pass over the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge to a pink butterfly bench honoring Elliana Rose (who lost her fight against a rare skin disease). - ➤ Brewer School Department superintendent Greg Palmer (with a 31-year career) is retiring at the end of June, and his replacement is Dan Chadbourne from the Bangor School Department. Palmer maintained steady budget increases during his tenure. Bangor Daily News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, UMaine and the Maine Forest Service will conduct a controlled burn in the Dwight B. DeMeritt Forest near College Avenue Extension in Old Town if weather permits. Residents are advised to avoid the stretch as they may see smoke and extra ranger presence. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ MaineStream Finance in Bangor celebrates 25 years of offering flexible home and business loans & financial coaching since 2001. The nonprofit plans to expand services to help more residents build a stronger financial future. The Piscataquis Observer

- ➤ The Maine Library Commission met Monday at the Maine State Library and reviewed updates to the patron behavior policy and library standards. - ➤ A report from Pew Charitable Trusts finds preapproved building plans cut construction costs by $5 to $10k per unit, yet Bangor's eight free plans have seen no takers. - ➤ Pine Tree Urgent Care will open July 1 at 557 Hammond St in Bangor. The clinic is finishing renovations and will offer X-rays, laceration repairs, lab tests and more seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (its aim is to ease pressure on emergency rooms). Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Hundreds gathered at Anah Shrine on Thursday for the annual Healthy Aging Expo where over 70 vendors, including health care providers, housing specialists, and local businesses offered older adults support and resources (the Hearing Loss Association of America’s Downeast Chapter emphasized community connection).
