EDUCATION NEWS

  • SAD 46 School Board approved a $16,653,368 budget for the 2025–26 school year on May 7 at Ridge View Community School in Dexter and set the annual budget meeting for 6 p.m. on May 29, with a referendum vote scheduled on June 10 in the district communities—Superintendent Kevin Jordan noted the approved figure is about $950,000 lower than the first draft and brings a 3.17% increase in local assessments.  The Piscataquis Observer
  • Young farmers attended the 95th Future Farmers of America State Conference in Orono to learn practical skills and modern technology that will help them lead Maine's agriculture as the industry faces funding cuts and an aging workforce.   • More than 500 graduates were honored at Eastern Maine Community College’s commencement ceremony held at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Family, friends and keynote speaker Shawn Moody from Moody’s Collision helped celebrate the hard work of graduates from over 30 programs.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Immigration attorneys said Border Patrol in Maine are arresting workers with valid work permits—prompting some lawyers to advise clients to avoid traveling to Maine. Lawyer Arnoldo Benitez said his client was detained on March 5 in Calais and placed in expedited removal, a move that has affected numerous lawful workers.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Colby Annis, an 8-year-old Hampden third grader battling aggressive brain cancer, was welcomed home Friday when Hampden Fire and Police led a truck parade for him after his treatments in Boston. His family has paused treatment to focus on his comfort + is raising funds via a GoFundMe that has brought in nearly $15,000 toward a $100,000 goal.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Husson women’s lacrosse team made history after winning its first North Atlantic Conference Championship last Saturday with a 12-11 comeback over Maine Maritime. The team will play its first Division III NCAA tournament game against 13th ranked William Smith at 1 p.m. today in Amherst — a win that secured their historic NCAA bid.  Bangor Daily News
