- ➤ Bangor Ballet performs The Wizard of Oz today at Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School and again on Sunday at 3 p.m. The production follows months of practice that give local youth a rare opportunity to experience classical ballet. WABI 5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, May 8, 507 students graduated from Eastern Maine Community College at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. New president Dr. Julius Edwards (appointed April 1) delivered his first commencement address during the ceremony. FOX Bangor
- ➤ Bangor schools will shift grades next year as Fairmount closes for asbestos fixes — fourth graders move to Mary Snow, fifth and sixth to James F. Doughty, and seventh and eighth to William S. Cohen. Superintendent Robinson will propose the plan Wednesday. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ UMaine hosted its second annual Hearty Maine Farewell on Friday at the University Mall to send off soon-to-be graduates with photo booths, food trucks plus live music, uniting students, families and friends in a festive celebration. - ➤ Maine passed a law that gradually raises teacher pay to a minimum of $50,000 by 2029 and Bangor schools have already approved higher starting salaries, with new teachers earning $46,164 this year and $47,549 next year to help address staffing shortages. Bangor Daily News
