  • Black Travel Maine and Bangor Historian David Payne led a walking tour that revealed hidden Black history in the city, including sites tied to black matriarchs + underground railroad passageways. Organizers called on allies to join future tours to grow appreciation of Bangor’s diverse past.  FOX Bangor
  • Galactic Comics hosted Free Comic Book Day Saturday where over 150 visitors took home more than 1,000 comics covering various genres & age ranges. They plan to expand next year's event by including local game stores.  WABI 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMaine senior biomedical engineering students are developing a device that tells runners when to replace their shoes to help prevent injuries such as stress fractures & shin splints. The indicator collects data on shoe wear and force changes to guide timely replacement and balance cost and health.  Bangor Daily News
  • On Saturday, 27 outstanding technical students were honored at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor when local businesses sponsored over $40,000 in scholarships and MACTE officials praised their work + highlighted them as the future skilled workforce.  FOX Bangor

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • US Rep Jared Golden has proposed a bill that would delay right whale protection rules from 2028 to 2035; Maine fishermen & the Department of Marine Resources say the extra time will allow needed research and safe gear testing, though conservationists worry for the endangered whales. The bill still must pass both the House and Senate before it can take effect.  News Center Maine
