- ➤ Police charged a Bangor man in the 1984 murder of 18-year-old Linda Maxwell—details of the arrest were not yet disclosed—and a judge ruled that fraud-convicted businessman Nathan Reardon may again manage rental properties. Construction will soon begin on a 50-unit senior housing project between Sunset and Texas avenues, and legislators are divided over a proposal to install speed cameras in construction zones—another update noted a Down East town mourning its third local fisherman this year—. - ➤ Raymond Brown (65) (formerly of Pembroke) pleaded not guilty on Friday in Calais District Court to the 1984 murder of Linda Maxwell, an 18-year-old last seen in Calais on August 23 after his arrest on Thursday, and he now awaits further court hearings via Zoom from Washington County Jail. - ➤ The Department of Defense confirmed $50 million in federal funds will build a new universal fuel cell hangar at the Bangor Air National Guard base for tanker planes. The money was earmarked by Sen. Susan Collins — part of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act passed March 15. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Dr. David Douglass from Eye Center Northeast said legislators are considering LD 1803 to let optometrists perform minor laser procedures (to treat glaucoma, after-cataract care, and remove styes and skin tags) so patients may not need to travel far for care. The proposed law would also expand vaccination and prescription authority for optometrists and help attract skilled eye care providers to meet Maine's growing needs. Bangor Daily News
