COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Bangor offers diverse events for residents including the Emporium's 2nd Annual Goth Prom, Loring Air Museum season opening, and Anah Shrine Circus returning for three days (April 25-26).  WABI 5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new DOJ order on Thursday reclassified FDA-approved marijuana products under Schedule III, easing tax burdens + research hurdles for Maine retailers like Garden of Gele. Business owner Matt Bayliss said the shift may bring tighter federal regulations that favor larger operators.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Anah Shrine Circus returns to the Cross Insurance Center with shows today at 10, 2, and 7 p.m. and tomorrow at 11 and 3 p.m., featuring acrobatics, clowns, and world-class performers for all ages.  WABI 5
  • Loring Air Museum will open in late May with updated exhibits and a renovated gift shop — visitors can use credit cards for purchases for the first time. Volunteers have refreshed the displays to preserve the legacy of Loring Air Force Base.  WABI 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A4TD's free Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) offers workforce training to low-income seniors in Maine so they can reenter the job market with boosted computer and job skills; Bangor residents have already joined the program, which runs up to four years.  WABI 5
  • Dexter Regional High School announced its Class of 2026 leadership today in Dexter, naming Chloe Murdock as valedictorian and Casey Swenson as salutatorian; Murdock (daughter of Kyle and Holly Murdock) plans to study pre-med at Columbia University, while Swenson will pursue elementary education at UM-Farmington.  The Piscataquis Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Maine Public Utilities Commission reminds residents and contractors to call 811 at least three business days before mechanical digging, as Gov. Mills proclaimed May Safe Digging Month to help prevent damage to underground utilities (such as gas lines and cables).  The Piscataquis Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine football will play its 20th annual spring game today at Morse Field in Orono, offering a preview of the upcoming season with a focus on key offensive + defensive positions. The game starts at 10 a.m. and ends with a red zone competition honoring late coach Jeff Cole.  Bangor Daily News
  • Brewer basketball star Oli Higgins (6-foot-10) announced on Thursday via Instagram that he will transfer to the Newman School in Boston and reclassify for the class of 2029. He was one of Maine's top high school players.  Bangor Daily News
  • UMaine women's basketball has added a 6-foot-3 forward from Cairo and a 5-foot-9 guard from the Balearic Islands as it prepares for the upcoming season. The new players bring international experience and fresh skills as the team fills gaps left by its top scorers.  Bangor Daily News
