  • The Maine Milk Commission announced that starting May 3 a gallon of whole milk will cost $4.81—up from $4.67, while the minimum wholesale price will increase to $4.36.  WABI 5
  • As gas prices near $4, Bangor bus ridership increased 21% over the past three months with officials reporting 8,037 extra rides & residents choosing buses to save on fuel costs. Transit fares are scheduled to rise next year, though the current $1.50 fare remains a cost-effective option.  News Center Maine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northern Light Health and EMCC will hold info sessions on Tuesday, Apr. 28 at 4 p.m. and Tuesday, May 5 at 5 p.m. (online or at Northern Light Mayo in Dover-Foxcroft, Sebasticook Valley in Pittsfield, or Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth) to support training with a Rural Maine grant.  The Piscataquis Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Shed hunter Drew Maciel found two dead moose covered with winter ticks this month while checking for antlers, and moose biologist Lee Kantar said heavy tick loads drain blood and can cause weight loss and death in these animals.  The Piscataquis Observer

FINANCE NEWS

  • County Federal Credit Union will build a new branch on an empty lot at 96 State St.—the one-story building will feature a two-lane drive-thru, 18 parking spaces and upgraded sidewalks. Construction will begin in May or June and finish by next February or March.  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Franklin and Kennebec county officials urged Gov. Mills to veto a temporary ban on large data centers—a move that would derail a $550 million redevelopment of a former paper mill in Jay, potentially costing the area hundreds of jobs and tax revenue; her decision is due by tomorrow, Apr. 25.  Maine Public
  • The Maine DOT urges drivers to slow down in work zones at the Broadway Street overpass in Bangor during National Work Zone Awareness Week. Workers stress that reducing speed near cones (which signal work areas) is vital for safety as many drivers exceed speed limits.  FOX Bangor

  • Bangor High baseball coach Dave Morris will step down after this season & move to St. Augustine, Florida with his wife as he seeks new coaching opportunities in baseball and football.
