  • Design Wall Housing and Damon’s Beverage and Redemption are hosting a bottle drive fundraiser in Bangor—calling on residents to recycle bottles and cans while volunteering to support safe, renovated housing. The event runs Friday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  WABI 5
  • Eastern Maine Community College hosted a free VIN etching event Tuesday in Bangor to help curb catalytic converter thefts that have led to costly replacements. The program (now in its third year) gave automotive students practical experience working with law enforcement.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock band ZZ Top will perform at Maine Savings Amphitheater on Sept. 6 with special guest George Thorogood & The Destroyers. General tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. as part of a lineup also featuring Motley Crue, Billy Idol and Pitbull.  Bangor Daily News
  • Bangor Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 130th season with Masterworks V: Our American Story on Apr. 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Collins Center (marking America’s 250th anniversary of Independence) while free chamber concerts run Apr. 23 at 12:00 p.m. at Wabanaki and Apr. 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Gracie Theatre.  FOX Bangor

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Maine Forest Service is emphasizing wildfire prevention during Wildfire Awareness Week in Old Town amid over 100 wildfires this year and ongoing drought conditions; officials urge residents to check daily ratings+follow permit rules for safe fire practices.  FOX Bangor

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maine lawmakers extended the Maine Affordable Housing Income Tax Credit to Dec. 31, 2036 after Gov. Mills approved it last week, helping builders and groups create and preserve affordable units. The measure, which has supported hundreds of units, comes as the state works to ease a housing shortage.  Bangor Daily News
  • Maine asked a judge Tuesday to award state ownership of a 1893 shipwreck off Bar Harbor amid disputed salvage rights. The sunken Delhi, loaded with 32,000 granite pavers, remains partially buried and the decision is expected soon + state law declares unclaimed shipwrecks belong to Maine.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new Alzheimer’s Association report, released Tuesday, April 21, shows that 66,000 unpaid Maine caregivers provided 103 million hours of care valued at $3 billion — a sign of the growing challenges families face with Alzheimer’s.  WABI 5

  • Former Red Sox coach Brian Butterfield (a standout from Orono High) and Ellsworth coach Mike McDevitt head the Maine Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The induction ceremony takes place at University of Southern Maine’s Hannaford Hall in Portland at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.  Bangor Daily News
