EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMaine students showcased 357 research projects by 750 participants at the UMaine Field House (Orono) on Friday. The event featured engineering, creative, and medical work including an autonomous racecar project and a study on early magnesium sulfate use, officials said.  WABI 5
  • Husson University held its 16th annual Research and Scholarship Day today with 45 projects showcased (including a cyberattack alert system and research on pediatric intensive care) giving students, faculty and staff a chance to share work and forge new connections.  FOX Bangor

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Penobscot County accepted a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant of $280,000 to demolish a dangerously eroded home in Argyle. County officials will coordinate removal of the structure and maintain the area as open space to prevent further environmental harm.  WABI 5
  • Central Maine Power has submitted a one year rate proposal to the Maine Public Utilities Commission that would lower the average residential bill by $4 a month starting in July as storm costs roll off + allow a later increase of up to $7 pending grid improvements.  FOX Bangor

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new law improves access to oral care for Maine children by funding mobile dental clinics at public schools and training primary care providers in minimally invasive treatments (aimed at preventing untreated dental disease from affecting school performance). Assistant House Majority Leader Lori Gramlich sponsored the law.  FOX Bangor

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hampden Academy freshman and varsity assistant coach Dayne Savage, a Caribou native, will replace longtime head coach Russ Bartlett after the season ended. The 29-year-old coach, who also owns a barbershop on State Street, said he plans a faster, up-tempo style to help his team succeed next year.  Bangor Daily News
