- ➤ UMaine Education Career Fair gave student teachers a chance to network with representatives from over 40 school districts as an annual preview of teaching roles; the event was held at the Wells Conference Center in Orono a few weeks before graduation. WABI 5
- ➤ Twelve UMaine undergraduates have been named the 2026 Outstanding Graduating Students based on academic and community efforts. Jasper Makowski of Dover-Foxcroft will pursue a medical degree after research in virus signaling, while Ruth Griffith from Parkman, the Honors College valedictorian, will begin a career at TD Bank. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Travis Getchell from Eddington was awarded $6.5 million after a jury found that a nearly 24-hour delay in treating his emergency spinal injury at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center led to his partial paralysis. The verdict, reached after five days of testimony, is one of the highest in Penobscot County and will help cover future medical costs. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Maine CDC warned health providers about medetomidine—commonly a dog sedative—found in Maine’s illicit drug supply after one death was reported from a mixed drug overdose. Bangor Public Health advised caution as overdoses may not respond normally to naloxone. WABI 5
