CULTURE NEWS

  • On Easter Sunday, Tango Maine will host a free tango event at 6 p.m. at the Keith Anderson building in Orono featuring live music by quartet Rotterdam from Germany and a post-concert Milango for dancing—this event offers a chance for people to learn tango through classes led by Shiwa Noh and seasoned dancer Geoffrey Gordon. The event encourages Mainers to disconnect from technology and reconnect with each other through the discipline of tango.  FOX Bangor

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at United Technologies Center in Bangor in the plumbing, heating and electrical program are training to ease the state's trade worker shortage. Senior Ellie Glover won a SkillsUSA gold medal & several students already have job offers from Nichols Plumbing before graduation.  WABI 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bobby Charles, a lawyer from Leeds who served under President George W. Bush, announced his candidacy for governor in the 2026 race—he said he will remove organized crime from Maine within 24 months by shutting down most fentanyl entry.  Bangor Daily News
  • A judge ordered Bangor Mall owners to draft repair plans for the mall and begin fixing a sewer line that is leaking human waste into a nearby stream. The owners must present their plans at a hearing (May 29 and 30).  News Center Maine

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former UMaine hockey star Bradly Nadeau became just the sixth AHL player under 20 to score 30 goals in a season when he reached the milestone with the Chicago Wolves, a Carolina Hurricanes draft pick—he led AHL rookies with 30 goals and 56 points in 62 games.  Bangor Daily News
  • The 58th annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race will take place this Saturday on a 16.5-mile course despite predicted rain, with over 680 entries and about 400 boats expected to compete. Bangor Parks and Recreation checked water levels while local sponsors such as Darlings and SeaDog Restaurant are ready—providing a warming tent with free chili and warm drinks—for racers at the finish.  Bangor Daily News
