  • The Maine McDonald’s All-Star Senior Basketball game raised $41,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine at Husson University today. Funds came from ticket sales, merchandise, and community sponsorships — money that will help local families manage high health costs.  WABI 5

  • Lumbra Hardwoods in Milo is closing this month after 74 years in business because rising electric and equipment costs forced layoffs. Employees will work until the end of April before the mill is sold.  Bangor Daily News

  • The University of Maine pilot program fast tracks special education teachers by hands-on training to ease the teacher shortage. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two Maine Maritime Academy professors are testing forever chemicals in Penobscot Bay and along the Penobscot River to learn how PFAS move through local marine food chains. They found readings near a Bucksport mill-landfill pipe up to 10 times higher than at other sites and will continue sampling this summer.  Bangor Daily News

  • Graham Platner, once known for his radical high school style, is now leading a grassroots campaign as the front-runner for the Senate nomination in Maine. He has held over 50 town halls & a recent poll shows a 27-point lead over his rival.  Bangor Daily News
  • The Queen City's two warming shelters close for the season today, leaving nearly 100 residents without overnight shelter. Leaders at The Together Place + the Brick Church say they will offer daytime services into summer while waiting on further plans from the city.  FOX Bangor

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new Prevent Cancer Foundation survey found that 73% of Americans are behind on cancer screenings, with 35% citing cost as the main concern. The findings come as April is National Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month, reminding residents that regular check-ups help catch cancer early.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine defenseman Brandon Holt earned first-team All-American honors after posting career highs of 32 points and 47 blocked shots and signed a pro tryout with the Tucson Roadrunners, including a one-year deal for next season, making him only the seventh defenseman in the 49-year program history to receive the honor.  Bangor Daily News
