  • Soul Friends Fur–tography is hosting a Pet Expo on May 17 in the Furniture Gallery parking lot on Broadway in Bangor from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature local pet rescue groups and offers owners a dog-friendly chance to honor their furry companions.  WABI 5

  • Bangor Savings Bank announced the appointment of Liz Kohler and John Stebbins to its board of directors to bring expertise in cross-sector leadership, workforce development, and regional economic growth to guide its strategy. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bangor senior Isabel Hicks from Penobscot Christian School was named United Technologies Center’s student of the year, earning a $1,500 scholarship and statewide event recognition next month. She excels as (UTC’s social media ambassador) in the Video and Audio Production program, connecting students with campus life.  WABI 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews battled a fast moving wildfire off Route 9 in Clifton just before noon Sunday, using hand tools plus help from Holden firefighters and the Maine Forest Service and a helicopter that dropped water from above, containing the blaze to less than ten acres with no injuries.  FOX Bangor

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Smelts are running as ice thaws and fisheries officials say anglers can dip in eligible lakes (Moosehead, Sebago, and others) from noon to 2 a.m. while following legal limits to enjoy this seasonal tradition.  Bangor Daily News

  • Amazon bought a 20-acre former drive-in in Hermon on April 9 for $1.9M and is beginning construction on a 60,000 sqft, $17.5M warehouse + movie screens were removed earlier this month.  Bangor Daily News

  • UMaine men's hockey players, including two goalies + several forwards, entered the transfer portal on Monday as coach Ben Barr seeks fresh options after an 18-14-3 season. Undergraduates have until April 27 to transfer while graduate students may switch anytime, and players who remain may return if a spot opens up.  Bangor Daily News
