- ➤ United Insurance announced its acquisition of Barresi Financial, a firm with 46 years in employee benefits and financial services, to expand its advisory services. The deal adds a 10-person team and offices in Presque Isle & Bangor, strengthening the insurer’s market presence. The County
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bangor Mall must fix city code violations by the end of May after pictures showed a leaking roof, a degraded parking lot, and sewage spills — a final hearing is set for May 29th and 30th to decide on timelines and penalties. FOX Bangor
- ➤ Maine lawmakers killed a bill that would have protected all of Sears Island—stopping development on the entire island by expanding an existing conservation easement. The Maine Senate rejected the legislation in a 24-9 vote on Tuesday after the House opposed it 76-68 one week earlier, leaving about 330 acres available for a wind port project. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows finalized the wording for a people’s veto of the state two-year budget. Rep. Gary Drinkwater filed the veto on March 26 and if 67,682 valid signatures are submitted by 5 p.m. on June 18 — the $11.3 billion budget will be paused, which may lead to a government shutdown until lawmakers pass a new budget. - ➤ On Tuesday, the Maine Senate unanimously confirmed Carl Wilson as commissioner of the Department of Marine Resources and Gov. Mills immediately swore him in. Wilson led the Bureau of Marine Science for about a decade — he served as its lead lobster biologist and replaces Patrick Keliher, who retired last month. Bangor Daily News
