COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Sheer Beauty Studio in Bradley, a bottle drive runs through the end of the month to support St. Joseph Healthcare's SAFE Program, which provides round the clock care for survivors (owner Danisha Hughes said the drive is part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month).  WABI 5
  • Disabled American Veterans held a seminar Wednesday, April 8 at Hampden Chapter 6 and will host sessions Thursday at Farmer’s Table in Corinna from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday at Dysart’s on Broadway from 9 to 11 a.m. Veterans are asked to bring ID & necessary documents.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marine Corps veteran Rob Bibber will host a veterans benefit and song release event at Bangor Elks Lodge this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Maine Veterans Project while he honors his late wife.  WABI 5
  • Comedian Dave Attell will perform at the Cross Insurance Center’s Hollywood Casino Ballroom Series on Saturday, Aug. 22. Tickets go on sale Friday, Apr. 10 at 10 a.m.  WABI 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Husson University hosted its eighth annual Giving Day on Wednesday, Apr. 8 on campus where students rode a decorated Cash Cab & answered trivia questions to raise funds toward a $200,000 goal while supporting food insecurity.  WABI 5
  • UMaine faculty sent an eight-page letter last week to President Ferrini-Mundy, Chancellor Malloy, and the Board expressing concerns over leadership, fiscal decisions, and communication. They requested a meeting on April 15 and a transition plan by May 31 (addressing the impact of budget cuts and layoffs).  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Maine Warden Service held its annual awards ceremony recognizing game wardens for their 2025 performance in Bangor. Sgt. Chad Robertson was named Game Warden of the Year and other awards honored excellence — including those from Sgt. Kyle Hladik and retired Col. Herbert Vernon.  WABI 5
  • Gov. Janet Mills' Senate campaign — which raised $2.6 million in Q1 — cancelled most ads after Wednesday by booking only $445 amid a tight contest with frontrunner Graham Platner and skipped two debates due to schedule conflicts.  Bangor Daily News
  • Maine hospitals must now give 120 days notice before shutting maternity or newborn care as mandated by a new law that took effect immediately — a shift meant to give families more time to plan. The requirement follows recent closures such as Bangor's Downeast OB/GYN, which will cease operations in July.  News Center Maine

  • Michael Cole plans to redevelop part of Bangor Mall into roughly 175 condos featuring a glass roof & spiral staircase in new renderings.
