COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Gold Star Cleaners is extending its drive to collect gently used coats through April to help supply free coats for those in need. Donated coats will be cleaned at local locations and given to Penquis for distribution; the goal is to collect at least 1,000 coats by April 30. WABI 5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Maine State Police are asking for help in solving a 30-year-old homicide in Madison and a nearly 30-year-old disappearance in Milo—Raynald Levesque was found dead at his home on April 6th, 1994 by a soft drink delivery man after his wife last saw him at 8:15 a.m., and Michael Madore was last seen on April 6th, 1996. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA reported that gas and diesel prices in Maine dropped by a penny — with gas now averaging $3.02 and diesel at $3.92 — while the national gas price rose by nine cents to $3.25. WABI 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A judge ruled that NAMDAR Realty broke city rules by not fixing the Bangor Mall roof, parking lot, sign, and by letting sewer lines leak into private property and a nearby stream— a hearing in May will decide the civil penalties. WABI 5
- ➤ Tabatha Caso of the Eastern Area Agency on Aging explained that LD 814 — the Older Mainers Act — is a funding bill introduced by all five area agencies to secure essential services so seniors can stay safely at home and maintain independence. WABI 5
- ➤ Maine does not have a statewide tracking system for rape kits—lawmakers are considering a bill to let survivors check the status of their kits online. If passed, the bill will require all kits to be sent to the Maine State Police’s crime lab starting in January 2027 and builds on local projects already active in Cumberland, Kennebec and Penobscot counties.
