- ➤ Bangor area radio stations helped fight hunger by collecting boxes of pasta, pasta sauce, and cash at the Brewer Hannaford Saturday as part of their annual Ton of Pasta event — the drive brought in enough supplies to feed over 4,000 Mainers. FOX Bangor

- ➤ Maine producers are expanding their maple syrup operations by adding taps and new technology to meet strong global demand; Williams Family Farm in Clifton now taps over 3,000 trees and plans to add hundreds more taps next season (output has nearly doubled since 2005). Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Orono High School hosted the 80th annual Maine State Science Fair today with 250 students competing for nearly $1 million in prizes. The event, organized by the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA) and the Jackson Laboratory, featured projects in biology, psychology, and agriculture. WABI 5
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife updated its ten-year Wildlife Action Plan to include over 700 species of birds, mammals and fish (plus hundreds of rare plants as early habitat warnings). Officials say the plan will guide targeted conservation amid climate change and development pressures. WGAN

- ➤ House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham faced nearly $3,500 in fines for employing a 14-year-old on his lobster boat in summer 2024—he accused Governor Janet Mills’ administration of political targeting and challenged the ruling in Augusta earlier this month. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Last week, Graham Platner drew about 100 supporters at a town hall in East Millinocket (a local mill town) as he leads his challenge to Senate incumbent Susan Collins. Voters backed his outsider message while recent efforts from Gov. Mills added to the debate. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Brewer High hockey alumni took to the ice Saturday at Penobscot Ice Arena in a memorial game that raised funds for a $1,000 scholarship for a Brewer senior honoring Brandon Cook + Jordan Parkhurst, whose loss in separate car accidents inspired the event. WABI 5
- ➤ At the University of Maine’s Memorial Gym in Orono, around 200 athletes with and without intellectual disabilities played in the Central Maine Basketball Tournament. The Special Olympics event featured full 5-on-5 games and skill stations to show teamwork + dedication. News Center Maine
