- ➤ Colby College research published on March 24 found that forever chemicals from contaminated farmlands are moving into rivers and streams that feed the Kennebec. The study warns that PFAS — chemicals that last a long time — may affect water safety for drinking and fishing. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows will keep her job while running for governor in 2026. She said she will step back from some duties next year—delegating elections work to longtime Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn. The Piscataquis Observer
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Maine-based nonprofit Sweetser was awarded a $2 million contract on March 20th to build Maine’s first psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth with severe mental health needs—The 16-bed center will be created by retrofitting an 8,000-square-foot building on its Saco campus to offer round-the-clock care. - ➤ Maine CDC reported that Penobscot County reached 23 HIV cases since October, with all patients injecting drugs within a year of diagnosis. Twenty-one patients reported homelessness and nearly all tested positive for hepatitis C — a significant rise from the average of two cases per year. Bangor Daily News
