  • Astronaut Jessica Meir, a native from Caribou, and astronaut Chris Williams are conducting a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (preparing the 2A power channel for solar array installation) that will last a few more hours.  WABI 5
  • Hannaford Supermarkets set a record in 2025 by donating 29 million pounds of fresh food across the northeast. The grocery chain partnered with Good Shepherd Food Bank to donate over 13 million pounds to local pantries — equivalent to 11 million meals.  WABI 5
  • Belfast man Nickalos Hemley returned to his childhood home in Black River, Jamaica, last fall after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage to deliver supplies and check on family. He relaunched his GoFundMe to help fund school supplies (some children still lack basic necessities) as community recovery continues.  WABI 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maine Veterans Project will host a Veterans Job and Career Fair at Hollywood Casino from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, where over 10 local companies will assist job seekers including veterans.  WABI 5
  • Gas prices across Maine climbed 15 cents in one week, reaching over $3.60 per gallon as seasonal travel and warmer weather boost demand. AAA advised drivers to slow down + ensure tires are inflated properly to help improve fuel efficiency.  FOX Bangor
  • A report from the Maine Department of Energy Resources showed clean energy contributed $3 billion to the state's economy in 2024 and supported over 16,000 jobs, marking the fastest growth of any sector in New England. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An ice jam raised flood risk on the Piscataquis River, causing flooding on North Howland Road and affecting Maxfield, Medford, Enfield & Howland until 9:45 p.m. Wednesday as the National Weather Service warned that levels were rising.  Bangor Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today Maine awarded $12M to fund 92 affordable apartments in Bangor, Portland and South Portland through the Home for Good program — the deal lets developers access up to $24M and funds support services for residents, who will pay about 30% of their income on rent.  Bangor Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developer Emily Ellis got board approval to build 26 rental townhouses at 2645 Broadway in Bangor & will start building in May to finish by fall, with rents around $1,500 to $1,600 per month to ease the housing shortage.  Bangor Daily News

  • UMaine defenseman Brandon Chabrier signed with the Maine Mariners in Portland Tuesday evening and will begin his pro career with the team, which is set for a busy week starting with a Wednesday game at Glens Falls, New York followed by home and away matches in Worcester.  Bangor Daily News
