  • Penquis offers a Community Supports program in Dover-Foxcroft where participants meet each morning and then head out for activities like exercising, shopping, or volunteering— they also join a monthly art class that produces an annual art calendar to help cover supply costs.   • On Sunday, firefighters from Alton, Bradford, and Lagrange rescued a horse from a railroad bridge near Bangor (temporarily stopping train traffic) so the animal could reach safe ground.  Bangor Daily News

  • Sesame Street Live! Say Hello starts today at 6:00 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center—doors open at 5:00 p.m. for families to see Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster and others search for Elmo’s dog, Tango, and children under 2 can sit on an adult’s lap without a ticket.  WABI 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new study by a nonprofit shows that Maine homes using heat pumps save up to 60% on energy bills compared to fossil fuels — with flat-rate billing homeowners seeing 52% savings when replacing propane or oil heating. Maine reached its heat pump goal before 2025 and Gov. Mills now plans to add 175,000 more by 2027 to cut greenhouse gas emissions.  The Piscataquis Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bangor has proposed six pre-approved housing plans for developers to lower home-building costs. The city council will vote in the next month or two — a step to speed up construction and improve housing affordability.  News Center Maine
  • Maine began its first post-election audit pilot today in Augusta under a new law — the state will review six legislative races decided by less than a 5% margin in 2024 to check election results. Secretary of State Shenna Bellows said the process is open to the public.  WABI 5
  • Federal regulators recommended that Brookfield Renewables keep operating four lower Kennebec River dams with small changes to let endangered fish pass—steps that critics say do not meet needed standards. Environmental groups and Wabanaki nations had asked for greater modifications or dam removal, but the FERC report says the plan balances energy needs with fish protection.  Bangor Daily News
