ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ East Millinocket police said Friday afternoon that a Medway woman died when her car crossed the center line and struck a truck—leaving one child with serious injuries, while another child was released after evaluation. WABI 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A March 7 ruling by Superior Justice Michaela Murphy said Maine is violating rights by not giving timely lawyers to jailed people, ordering releases after 14 days and dismissals after 60 days without counsel. The state must present a plan by April 3 and hold an emergency meeting on March 17—while a hearing on April 7 will set the next steps. The Piscataquis Observer
- ➤ On March 11, the Maine Public Utilities Commission approved a 23 percent increase to Versant Power’s distribution rate which will raise monthly bills by about 8 percent and add roughly $11.15 for an average 500 kilowatt hour customer, affecting both the Maine Public & Bangor Hydro districts. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Frank Del Duca, a Bethel native, finished fourth in the 4-man bobsled competition at Lake Placid with a time of 2:45.64—just over a second behind the winning German team after also placing fourth in the 2-man event the previous weekend. He is now working to secure his spot on his second Olympic team for Milano Cortina 2026. News Center Maine
- ➤ UMaine ended its season with a 77—59 loss to Bryant in the America East championship game Saturday, finishing with a 20—14 record and earning its first conference final appearance since 2004. Bryant, now 23—11, will head to the NCAA tournament after a strong regular season. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ The UMaine men's hockey team won 7-1 over UMass Lowell at a sold-out Alfond Arena on Saturday night and advanced to the Hockey East semifinals for a second straight season—UMaine is now 22-7-6 and will play at TD Garden in Boston on Thursday with games at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Bangor Daily News
