COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three Bangor radio stations once owned by Stephen King are back on the air as new owner Jeff Solari revived WKIT with a new downtown studio and veteran host Jay Hanson acquired WZLO and WZON; WKIT now serves local listeners with classic rock. Their purchase in December brought a $75,000 donation to the Heart of Maine United Way—Hanson plans to find new space for the stations in the near future—ensuring continued community service.  News Center Maine

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A longtime Bangor florist, Lougee & Frederick's, Inc., will move to an empty storefront at 21 Washington St. on April 1 to create a safer work environment and offer more space for flower displays & gift items. The move will end about 15 years at its current State St. location and is expected to lead to new hires and added customer features like a refrigerated section and small classes.  Bangor Daily News

  • Isabelle Allen, a senior at Washburn District High School, has been named the 2025 Principal’s Award winner for her strong academic record and leadership roles at school. She and fellow honorees will attend an honors luncheon on April 5 at Jeff's Catering in Bangor where plaques and $1,000 scholarships are presented.  The County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. District Judge Lance Walker denied Attorney General Aaron Frey’s request to reinstate Maine’s 72-hour gun waiting period—he had sided with gun rights advocates last month. Frey has now appealed the decision to the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.  Bangor Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Madawaska, Dennis Lavoie — who is 70 percent deaf and has very limited vision because of Usher Syndrome Type 2 — finished marathons in Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, New York, and Tokyo to earn the Six Star Medal with the help of a guide runner. He is one of fewer than 20,000 runners who have earned the medal and may be the first who is both blind and deaf.  Bangor Daily News
  • The Penobscot County Conservation Association is holding the 85th Eastern Maine Sportsmen’s Show in Orono this weekend at UMaine Field House, with vendors selling gear for fishing, hunting, camping and boating plus offering new foods like jerky and pickles. The event raises funds for scholarships and camperships and charges $10 per day or $15 for the weekend.  WABI 5
  • UMaine hockey will begin its postseason quest tonight at 6 p.m. at Alfond Arena when the Black Bears host UMass Lowell in a Hockey East quarterfinal. UMaine is the second seed at 21-7-6 and faces UMass Lowell, the seventh seed at 16-15-4 with a recent overtime win — a win is needed to set up NCAA regionals scheduled for March 28th — as the team aims to advance in the tournament.  Bangor Daily News
