- ➤ Williams Family Farm in Clifton has started making maple syrup after a late frost and will host Maine Maple Weekend on March 21 and 22 with sap boiling, demonstrations, free samples, and an annual pancake breakfast that supports Holbrook Recreation. WABI 5

- ➤ Marden’s will open its Bangor store on Monday, Mar. 16 at 9 a.m. at 229 Springer Drive (former Burlington Coat Factory) to improve retail operations while its Brewer location on Wilson Street holds a closing sale. Bangor Daily News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Ellsworth American will launch Bangor Historian in April, a free newspaper exploring the city’s past. It will be mailed to every home in Bangor and surrounding areas to share local historical stories. WABI 5
- ➤ Bangor will welcome the International Cryptozoology Museum on April 1 at 490 Broadway, where visitors can explore displays on Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. The historic building has been renovated to quadruple its space and preserve its Art-Deco design. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ UMaine hosts its annual Concert for a Cause today at Collins Center for the Arts with performances by the UMaine Concert Band and local school bands to benefit Penquis—attendees are encouraged to donate $10. WABI 5
- ➤ Modern Pagan practices in Maine see growing interest as local spiritual leaders use the state’s Pagan Clergy Association (which licenses ministers to officiate weddings and serve as chaplains) to build trust and host seasonal festivals that honor nature. News Center Maine
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices statewide increased by 52.8 cents per gallon since last month and reached an average of $3.41, according to a survey of over 1,200 stations. GasBuddy’s analysis suggests prices may rise further this week & diesel may also see a sharper increase. FOX Bangor
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ SAD 46 will lose $183,920 in state subsidy for the 2026-27 budget, as Superintendent Kevin Jordan explained at a March 4 board meeting at Ridge View Community School in Dexter. The budget committee will hold extra sessions on Wednesday nights to develop a revised spending plan (based on current figures). The Piscataquis Observer
- ➤ Maine lawmakers have proposed a bill to update the school funding formula by revising cost adjustments and local contributions. Nearly two thirds of school districts may get more state dollars while fewer than 50 districts could see decreases, and the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee will review the proposal soon. - ➤ The Maine Emergency Management Agency said that despite melting snow and normal winter snowfall, depleted wetlands keep spring flood risk low amid a years-long drought. The report highlights record low stream flow and deep drought conditions as part of shifting climate patterns+ with no additional flood threats. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ UMaine Cooperative Extension installed an advanced weather station in Orono today as the third of 26 planned stations - designed to give farmers real-time data for irrigation, frost protection and crop management amid extreme weather conditions. The Piscataquis Observer
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The state sent nearly 700 letters urging those with high PFAS levels to get tested, yet testing remains low with only 164 positive results recorded; Dr. Criswell cited cost & reluctance as key barriers. More opportunities to test are coming as the program updates its requirements. Bangor Daily News

- ➤ The Camden Hills Windjammers won back-to-back Class B titles at the state championships held Saturday at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center at Colby, setting a state record in the 200 medley relay as they outscored Cape Elizabeth 455 to 296.5. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ UMaine (defending champion) and Boston College will clash Friday night in the Hockey East quarterfinal. The game will move the winner closer to an NCAA Tournament berth while the losing team ends an inconsistent season. Bangor Daily News
