ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The NTSB on Friday released a preliminary report on the January plane crash at Bangor International Airport where six died, stating that the engines maintained full takeoff power + no evidence of a flight control malfunction was found before the plane experienced multiple explosions.  WABI 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New data from the Maine Department of Marine Resources showed that lobstermen hauled 78.8 million pounds of lobster in 2025—down from 110.7 million pounds in 2021—as trade wars, inflation and a late molt reduced their catch value, while lobster remained the dominant fishery.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Downeast OB/GYN announced on Friday that it will close; its final business day is July 2 and patients will soon receive written notice. Dr. Christopher Rumsey said the closure follows the loss of two physician partners and a midwife and he will join Women’s Healthcare of Maine.  WABI 5

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from the American Community Survey show Maine's vacant home rate dropped from nearly 25% to about 20% statewide between 2015–19 and 2020–24 (most empty homes are seasonal), so housing supply stays tight as rising demand pushes prices higher.  The Piscataquis Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • UMaine freshman forward Ace Flagg, nicknamed Honey Badger, was named to the America East all-rookie team on Friday — he and the Black Bears will face NJIT today at 4 p.m. in Newark.  Bangor Daily News
  • UMaine men's hockey team faces Vermont today in a season finale that will decide their playoff seeding; if BU earns two more points, UMaine will become the sixth seed, host a playoff game & play an extra postseason match.  Bangor Daily News
  • Guard Maddie Provost of Lawrence High and guard Nolan Ames of Camden Hills Regional were crowned Miss and Mr. Maine Basketball winners on Friday at the MacDonald’s All-Star Banquet in Bangor (hosted by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches). Provost led her team to a state title while Ames scored 30 points in the tournament.  Bangor Daily News
