  • The Downtown Bangor Partnership is moving into 33 State Street, the historic Bangor Hydro Electric headquarters, to create a visitor center and broadcast station for WKIT and Mixed Maine Media (boosting local event updates). An open house is planned soon, and the move accompanies its Main Street Maine accreditation.  WABI 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Anah Shriners Circus is coming to Bangor April 24 to 26 at the Cross Insurance Center and will feature acrobats + clowns with dazzling performers for family fun; tickets are on sale now.  WABI 5
  • Undergraduate students at UMaine can attend the free concert by The Driver Era with special guest Almost Monday at the Cross Insurance Center on April 17. Tickets for students are available on March 2 + graduate students and others can purchase theirs starting on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.  WABI 5

FINANCE NEWS

  • AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free in-person and virtual tax filing help through April 15 for Bangor residents and others, focusing on seniors and low to moderate income taxpayers facing complex returns. Volunteers from over 3,600 certified sites nationwide are ready to assist.  WABI 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Husson University and WHSN hosted a Red Cross blood drive Wednesday on campus that continues a decade-long tradition of inspiring students to donate blood — the event has collected over 900 units to date.  WABI 5
  • Ashley Estes, a counselor from Northern Light Acadia Hospital + part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, discussed on Feb. 25 how eating disorders affect anyone and noted that stigma can keep people from getting help in Bangor.  WABI 5
  • At Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Holden, Dr. Ai Takeuchi warned pet owners that unvaccinated puppies remain at risk for Parvo virus + advised starting the Lyme vaccine early and scheduling routine care as pets now tend to live longer.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cooper Flagg, a hometown hero who left Nokomis Regional High School four years ago, now averages 20 points per game in the NBA and inspires local youth to pursue basketball dreams (he remains rooted in Maine despite his national success).  News Center Maine
  • The Bangor boys North regional tournament crowned Gardiner’s Brady Atwater, Fort Kent’s Aden Jeffers, Machias’ Mickey Fitzsimmons, and Easton’s Mason Pelletier as MVPs (William C. Warner Award winners) while each team earned All-Tournament honors and will head to state championships this weekend at Cross Insurance Center.  Bangor Daily News
  • UMaine junior right wing Josh Nadeau scored 8 points, including a hat trick, in two wins against Merrimack after returning from illness. The Black Bears (16-12-3) will face Northeastern on Friday at Cross Insurance Arena and on Saturday at Tsongas Center in Lowell.  Bangor Daily News
