  • Mainely Spinners held a demonstration at the Bangor Farmers Market yesterday, showcasing their wool spinning skills in the International Back to Back Wool Challenge. They raised over $3K for Sarah’s House (a nonprofit that aids cancer patients traveling for treatment).  WABI 5
  • Zack Carter, a 39-year-old Marine veteran with multiple sclerosis, has spent two years searching for an accessible apartment in Bangor as his condition makes daily living riskier. A recent apartment fire increased his family’s urgency, and housing officials warn that waitlists for ADA-compliant units remain long.  Bangor Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence will tour Maine from July through October to mark its 250th anniversary, stopping in all 16 counties. The tour features a July 4 celebration in Portland and events at Foxcroft Academy (Sept. 4-5) per the Maine Historical Society.  The Piscataquis Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The MDIFW advises Maine residents not to feed deer during winter since the animals naturally build fat reserves and thick coats to brave harsh weather – food sites can concentrate deer, raising disease risks and drawing predators, especially to young fawns.  Bangor Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bangor and Penobscot County saw fatal overdoses rise from 64 to 67 in 2025 while the state recorded declines elsewhere — a state report noted funds remain unspent. The city and county hold over $2M in opioid funds that an advisory committee will soon distribute to add harm reduction services.  Bangor Daily News

  • Matt Polstein of New England Outdoor Center proposes expanding the resort and cabins with nearly 100 new housing units and commercial spaces near Katahdin. A public hearing is scheduled for March 4 in Bangor to review the project.  Bangor Daily News

  • Bethel native Frank Del Duca returns to Italy to pilot USA-1 at the Milan Cortina Olympics and will compete today with brakeman Josh Williamson in Cortina d’Ampezzo — a nod to his Italian heritage.  Bangor Daily News
