  • A former head chef (Johnathan Williams) has sued Salt North Tap Room for unpaid wages and alleged violations of Maine's wage laws, saying his paychecks were below the agreed $1,923 weekly salary. Other employees also reported delayed, reduced pay at the restaurant, which opened less than a year ago at 16 Union St.  Bangor Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • UNO Pizzeria & Grill will host a Valentine’s Day deep dish pizza cooking class in Bangor on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6:00 p.m. Couples pay $99 per ticket to make heart-shaped pizzas with expert guidance + enjoy champagne, salads, and desserts.  WABI 5
  • A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence will tour Maine from July to October to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. The document (one of 26 surviving Dunlap Broadsides) will be on display in all 16 counties, accompanied by community events that invite residents to reflect on its history.  Bangor Daily News
  • Black Mainers have shaped Bangor’s community from historic churches to local businesses, with leaders like Athena Bryce working to foster inclusion + their efforts have spurred lasting pride. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Secretary of State warned residents today about scam texts claiming to be from the BMV that threaten to suspend registrations. Officials advise verifying any BMV messages with the office to avoid fake payment links.  WABI 5
  • Maine native astronaut Jessica Meir will command the Crew-12 mission launching Wednesday at 6 a.m. from Cape Canaveral on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as she heads to the International Space Station — marking her second trip to space.  WABI 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday, Maine CDC confirmed the first measles case since 2019 in Penobscot County when an adult returned from an area experiencing an outbreak. Doctor James Jarvis from Northern Light Health advised residents to verify their vaccination status and receive two doses of the MMR vaccine for full protection — those unsure should consult their provider.  WABI 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chris Parent from Gorham recovered from early equipment issues+ won first place and $1,500 at the 19th annual Moosehead Togue Derby this past weekend with a 9.66-pound lake trout. Bangor's Spencer Valley claimed second place amid a busy local fishing weekend.  Bangor Daily News
  • Frankie Del Duca, a Mainer and member of Team USA’s bobsled team, was chosen to carry the flag at Friday’s opening ceremony in Milan, Italy, and will race as a pilot starting Feb. 16. His parents run Frank's Bar and Grill (Newry), a spot that has the community cheering.  Bangor Daily News
  • The Maine high school basketball tournament begins Tuesday with girls and boys quarterfinal games in Bangor and Augusta.
