- ➤ Second grader Arianna Colemen at Brewer Community School organized a drive that collected eight bags of winter gear for the homeless, supporting the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter. - ➤ State officials are hosting Maine Unclaimed Property Week from Feb. 2-8 to help Mainers check online for uncashed checks, old bank accounts or inheritances. Officials sent 15,000 letters to those with over $500 and contacts may claim their money + be assured it is not a scam. News Center Maine
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The UMaine men's basketball team broke a decade-long home losing streak by beating Vermont 76-70 in Orono last night. They will travel to Rhode Island to face Bryant University Saturday at 4 p.m. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ UMaine's women's basketball team avenged a home loss by beating defending champion Vermont, snapping their 19-game home streak 55-46 at Patrick Gymnasium on Thursday morning. Senior guard Asta Blauenfeldt led with 21 points as UMaine improved to 12-11 while Vermont fell to 19-6. Bangor Daily News
