  • Maine observed International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Tuesday, Jan. 27 to honor the six million Jewish victims and millions of others persecuted by Nazis. Gov. Mills issued a proclamation urging residents to learn about Holocaust history and remember the genocide.  News Center Maine

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maine’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.2% in December from 3.4% in November, and state figures show it has stayed below 4% for 48 consecutive months while available jobs fell 4,200 as more older Mainers retired.  Maine Public

  • The University of Maine Board of Trustees voted on Monday to demolish Crossland Hall on the Orono campus to make space for new sports facilities & additional parking while relocating the Franco‑American Centre. Demolition is expected in the coming weeks.  WABI 5

  • State officials issued a patient advisory after MarijuanaVille’s Waterville store sold concentrates with dangerous levels of pesticides (one product tested at 44 times the safe level).
