ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out at Bangor Efficiency Apartments (Hammond) at 10 p.m. Friday, displacing 25–30 residents as crews contained the blaze to one unit with no injuries reported while local agencies and nearby businesses provided emergency assistance during bitter temperatures. FOX Bangor
- ➤ On Friday night, a fire at Bangor Efficiency Apartments on Hammond Street displaced up to 30 residents as firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, no injuries were reported, and local groups including the Red Cross and a city bus provided warmth and shelter while the State Fire Marshal’s Office investigates the cause. - ➤ The film InhuMAINE debuted in Aroostook County when the University of Maine at Presque Isle Psychology Club hosted a screening of the 78-minute documentary by Bangor native Rogan O’Donnell, who spent 19 months filming the city’s former tent city, and the event comes ahead of tomorrow’s Point in Time Count. - ➤ The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is sharing safety tips to help caregivers prevent wandering among those with dementia during dangerous cold weather. Caregivers are advised to hide key items and use cameras & community support to keep loved ones secure. WABI 5
- ➤ A federal audit found Maine made $45.6 million in improper fee-for-service Medicaid payments for autism rehabilitative and community support (RCS) services and must repay $28.7 million for the federal share, according to a Friday report from the OIG. FOX Bangor

- ➤ UMaine hockey rallied for a 6-5 overtime win over UMass Lowell Saturday at the Tsongas Center when junior center Max Scott ended a 13-game goal drought with a 1:46 overtime winner; assists came from Charlie Russell and Brandon Holt as the Bears improved to 14-9-2 while Lowell fell to 9-16. - ➤ Oval racers participated in the Northern Maine Ice Ovals on Mattanawcook Lake in Lincoln, and organizer Andy Bernard said the family race — drawing veterans and new competitors — inspires a tradition.
