GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bangor Housing is closing public housing waitlists as officials tackle overwhelming demand from 3,400 applicants for 587 units. Waitlists at Autumn Park West, Crestwood Place, and Griffin Square are closed, and those for Sun Ridge Senior Apartments (opening this summer) will close by January's end as leaders call for funding. - ➤ Sangerville Fire Department received a $56,000 grant from the Gloria C. Mackenzie Foundation to buy new gear, including three airpacks, eight self-contained breathing apparatus bottles and a vehicle extraction tool, accepted on Dec. 30 at the fire station. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Eastern Maine Medical Center earned a five-star rating on Forbes' top hospitals list last month, making it the only Maine hospital recognized at this level. EMMC President Ava Collins credited the hospital's dedicated caregivers as they work to help Northern Light Health recover from previous financial challenges. Bangor Daily News
- ➤ Covenant Health's data breach last spring affected over 478,000 people, including many Mainers. The company mailed letters last week to inform patients in Lewiston, Bangor, and Biddeford that an unauthorized party may have accessed their personal information. Bangor Daily News
